How to call my Darling
I am still wondering what is the best way to call my Darling when we meet friends or relatives.
I have to find it and practice more before my wedding. OMG!
first, in English, it is much easier to call “Darling” without any reason.
so natural, so relaxed.
And in Japanese, 主人 means master, while 旦那 means the one whom I beg from.
really hard to accept it for me.
夫(otto) doesn’t have such discriminatory sense.
The problem is that I don’t think the pronunciation is nice.
So I prefer some vague words, like うちの彼(the one at my home?!), 彼(he,him), この子(my pretty boy), which always make my Darling not happy.
Then, in Chinese, the most popular name for husband is 老公(Lao Gong).
I have practiced it several times both in Mandarin Chinese and in Cantonese.
But it is a bit vulgar and sounds not so well.
What is more, it means “eunuch” in ancient China!!
Unbelievable!
OK. I searched some other ways to call husband in Chinese, as bellows.
丈夫、夫君、良人、官人、郎君、相公、先生、爱人、我们家那口子,孩子他爸……
Among of them, maybe to call 我丈夫 in Mandarin while 我先生 in Cantonese is better for me.
It seems that 我先生 in Mandarin shows too much respect to your husband like a teacher which make the listener upset.
But in Cantonese is normal.
Unfortunately, I have to use 老公 with HAKKA(客家), the dialect in my hometown.
Because 我先生 and 我丈夫 are written words but not spoken words for HAKKA.
Anyway, if I can, I still prefer some vague words, like 我家那位,我屋企果個人(the one at my home?!), 他(he,him), 这个娃(my pretty boy), which will make my Darling not happy either, perhaps.
