Duanwu Festival

Today is the 5th day of the 5th month of the lunar year, called Duan Wu Festival, or Dragon Boat Festival, which has been a public holiday now in China.
I went back to my hometown and celebrated it with my parents and relatives.

The customs vary a lot in different areas.
The main event of the festivities is the Dragon Boat Race.
I didn’t go to watch it for the rain.

But I ate different kinds of Zongzi, dumpling usually made of glutinous rice wrapped in bamboo or reed leaves.
My aunt is good at making it.
The rice is so soft within many green and red peas.

My mother hanged ixora (oriental plants) on the front door.
It is said to ward off evil.
And she killed some cockroachs now, which is also one custom of today.

It will be a good summer.
